Sumbel is a kind of Nordic ritual whose main and most important part is the toast. A horn or cup is passed in a circle and first toast is to the gods and goddesses, to their glory, and for their blessing, where each participant makes a toast, drinks and passes the round. In the second round, they are toasting for the glory and blessings of ancestors, heroes, or dís (the goddesses of the family clan, often the souls of women of previous generations who remain with the family as guardians of the family fireplace). In the end, the participants can take oaths, recite poems, or ask gods and ancestors for help of blessings.
Sumbel can then be part of larger and more complex rituals and blots, such as the Dísablót.As a fragrance, Sumbel is inspired by the image of a family circle at a common table and the comforting scent of fruit and spices, mead and the fireplace. The first notes appear as a delicate citrus in the form of petitgrain, lemongrass, aloisia, and palmarosa that mixes with neroli, and greener tones of hops, mountain ginger, cardamom, and coriander. In the background, honey tones, sandalwood, Buddha wood, cloves, cinnamon and oud appear mix in.
Main notes: neroli, citrus, palmarosa, lemongrass, cardamom, coriander, cinnamon, sandalwood, honey, buddha wood, hops.
